Kuwait Cracks Down on Illegal Crypto Mining to Protect National Grid
Kuwaiti authorities have launched a sweeping campaign against illegal cryptocurrency mining operations, with over 60 individuals currently under investigation. The Public Prosecution warns more suspects may be identified in coming weeks.
Last Friday’s coordinated security operation targeted residential properties housing unauthorized mining rigs across the country. Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef and Electricity Minister Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem led the crackdown aimed at relieving strain on Kuwait’s power infrastructure.
The Ministry of Electricity has begun disconnecting illegal operations as unlicensed mining activities have caused localized blackouts. This marks Kuwait’s most aggressive move yet to regulate energy-intensive crypto operations within its borders.
